The cheapest way to go about that, would be to buy a wig in the length and color closest to what you want. They usually run about $40 for synthetic, and more for human hair.
Go to a beauty salon and just tell them you want to get some extensions, you can ask them for their price. They would show you the length and the color of it.
I had the same thoughts as you, so I did the wig thing. Turns out I look horrible with the length of hair I THOUGHT I wanted. A wig shop is a great place for ideas (style, length and color)
