Thinking about getting them and never had them. What are the PROS and CONS of Hair Extentions?
My advice: Just don't get a murkin. What are the PROS and CONS of Hair Extentions?
Hair extensions can be a lot of fun if you are aware of the risks and the procedures. If you get good advice and find a professional who is skilled at extensions here are some of the advantages you can enjoy:

1. You have an instant new look that is fairly easy to care for once it is applied.

2. You can change the look at any time and know that the long hair has a limited life cycle.

3. You can have an intricate patterns of different colors or beads added to the extension without additional damage to your hair.

4. You can try the look and feel of long hair before you decide to invest a lot of time and energy growing your own.

Disadvantages Of Hair Extensions

It is a well known fact that hair extensions can do damage to your natural hair. The glue that is attached to your natural hair can burn and split the ends of your hair. This means that you will almost always be required to have the ends of your hair cut after the extensions are removed.

Also, if a lot of long or heavy extensions are added, this applies additional pressure to your scalp. One of the dangers of extra pressure to your scalp can be a thinning of your natural hair. In some cases there have been reports of headaches from the added weight of the hair or allergies to the bonding glue that is used. Everyone is different and will react to hair extensions in a different way. They are not necessarily good or bad. It depends on a number of factors that you have to consider.

If you are trying to grow your hair long, you might want to think seriously of the potential damage the hair extensions could do to your long hair quest. However, if you only would like a new look for a few months and are prepared to lose some inches along with the extensions, they can be a great solution.

The best advice is to find an expert at hair extensions and discuss all the pros and cons of the instant hair look.

What to avoid in hair extensions

';The most important thing is to avoid extensions and pieces that are heavier than your own hair. If extensions are too heavy, they will damage and break off hair -- so hair needs to be long and healthy enough to withstand the pressure,'; Pelusi points out.

Inquire as to the possibility of getting a variety of weights, because a single one may not work for everyone. In particular, extensions that do not match your hair are most likely to give you problems. Safieh recommends a type of extensions called Hairdreams, which offer a variety of weights or thicknesses to match your true hair -- as well as the ability to pre-order highlights and lowlights. Hairdreams lasts up to seven months and the hair can be reapplied, which also helps to decrease cumulative costs of new hair and removal.

Certain specialty methods have emerged from certain salons, such as the ';Goddess Loc,'; which have a silicon grip and plastic coating in order to not damage your hair.

The Pros of Hair Extensions

Aside from the obvious- added inches of luxurious hair- hair extensions offer many positives and benefits. The biggest benefit is the temporary nature of the hairstyle. With hair extensions you do not need to wait six to twelve months to enjoy long, swinging past your shoulders hair. And, if the long locks get bothersome you can quickly have them removed without the regret you would feel if you had spent a year achieving the length. Plus, the ease of hair extensions allow you try out a long look without the commitment.

The second benefit to hair extensions is the added fullness. When most people think of hair extensions they think of added length. However for individuals with fine, limp, or thinning hair, hair extensions are perfect for adding thickness, fullness, and volume.

Another benefit to hair extensions is their versatility. People with naturally straight hair can have wavy hair extensions applied and enjoy curl without a chemical process. Hair extensions also allow you to try out new colours or dramatic highlights without having to make a permanent commitment or damage your hair.

Finally, hair extensions are easy to take care of, if they have been properly applied, so the new look won't add hours to your morning routine.

The Cons of Hair Extensions

While the above benefits make hair extensions seem like a perfect, no worry idea there are drawbacks to this beauty treatment. One such drawback is the cost. In order to get the most natural looking hair extensions without doing major, permanent damage to your existing hair you need to purchase good quality hair extensions and pay to have them applied by a professional stylist. Depending on your stylist. The amount of length or volume you want to add, and the quality of the extensions you choose to buy this process can set you back anywhere from hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Another con or negative to hair extensions is the damage that can be done to your natural hair. Depending on how the fake hair is attached- glue, thermal heat, knott
Pros- You can achieve a variety of looks from extensions without drastically altering your natural hair

-It is a form of protective styling so long as you are maintaining them correctly (and they are installed correctly) your hair will Grow due to the low/no manipulation i.e. flat irons, brushing, etc

Cons- Maintenance can be ALOT at times but well worth it for keeping your natural hair healthy
you can go to sallys beauty and but hair that you threat into clips and just clip them in diff parts of your hair. its awesome- my friend has short hair and tried this and it looked great on her without paying all the extra money. that way, you can wear them whenever you want.
i don't know too much about them but i've heard that over time usage of hair extensions can make you get bald..this may be an urban legend but i'd imagine anything tying onto your hair real tight is probably not the best thing
choose baileyboo's response. she hit it right on the nose.
Pros...new look

Cons... costs$$ ,hurts (ouch), can pull out your natural hair,
